Howard began his real estate career in residential sales and then branched out to buying and selling repossessed houses and apartments. He bought and sold over 150 properties on his own, giving him invaluable experience in title, legal and escrow work. This background has contributed to his success in putting together real estate deals today.
Since 1972 Howard has owned operated or managed over 40 motels and hotels ranging in size from a 22 unit motel in North Lake Tahoe to a 310 unit full-service Ramada Inn in Salt Lake City. With his knowledge of what to do with a property and probably more importantly what not to do, Howard can show buyers the upside potential of a property. His operational expertise can guide a client in turning a distressed or marginal property into a profitable one.
In addition to Howard’s hands-on experience as an owner/operator, he spent ten years as Vice President of American Hotel Motel Brokers in Burlingame, CA. Howard was the highest producing agent, personally closing escrow on over 100 lodging transactions and supervising more than 500 lodging sales. Throughout his career, Howard has developed a strong relationship with many SBA lenders, giving him the skill to negotiate successful workout arrangements for distressed properties.
Howard’s industry knowledge goes beyond his real estate brokerage firm and hospitality operations. He has been qualified and employed by the California Municipal and Superior courts as an expert witness in the hotel/motel industry and brokerage fields. Howard has been elected to the Board of Directors for the California Lodging Industry Association for four terms and has been President of that highly respected organization twice. In 2011, Howard was honored by being voted President of the Independent Lodging Industry Association, a national organization for independent hotel and motels.
A respected industry professional, Howard had developed relationships with brokers and industry leaders throughout the western United States. His extensive network of contacts has expanded the exposure in the market place that he can offer his clients.
